UFC 248 will feature both prominent title fights as all four competitors pass the weigh-ins!
At today’s early morning weigh-ins UFC’s middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero, the challenger, both hit the mark for their fight, as well as Zhang Weili and formmer champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who face off for the ladies’ strawweight title.
UFC’s rough times with Romero making the 185-pound limit were bound to repeat, as many of the fans believed it was a real possibility that the Cuban martial artist would not be able to make weight for his third title fight (suffered two decision losses to Robert Whittaker). These doubts were supported by Yoel being the last fighter to weigh-in. However, behind a towel, Romero weighted in at the exact mark of 185 pounds, making a fan dream fight finally official.
For the first title match of the 2020s and her first title defense, Zhang Weili weighted in at 115 pounds, with her opponent Joanna Jedrzejczyk also weighing at the 115-pound mark. Joanna will try to win the belt she defended five times in the past, after losing in to Rose Namajunas and facing difficulty approaching the category ever since.
