Butterfield comes up clutch, Nanterre 92 take down Cedevita Olimpija!

Dragons have welcomed Nanterre 92, last year’s semi-finalist from the Pro A playoffs at the Stožice Arena in hopes of their first European victory this season.

Cedevita Olimpija has had very different starts in the regional ABA League, scoring the first place after three rounds, all whilst beginning their EuroCup quest 0-3, with losses against Darussafaka, UNICS and Germani Brescia.

First quarter’s fast pace was more suited for Nanterre, as the score on the scoreboard was 21:28, mostly behind great percentages from the two (9/11 – 81%) and the free throw line (100%). First half’s scoring was dominated by Nanterre’s Taylor Smith and Dallas Moore scoring 16 points each. Zmajevi have managed to stay on track mostly due to back-to-back threes by Ryan Boatright.

Cedevita Olimpija’s individuality has helped them more than once this season and kept them in certain games, as was the case against Nanterre 92 tonight, with Simonović, Miller-Mcintyre and Ryan Boatright combining for 21 out of 23 points for Zmajevi in the third quarter.

Nonetheless, 4th quarter struggles proved vital for Cedevita Olimpija once more. With just over four minutes left, Ryan Boatright hit a three to give them one of the first game leads at a pivotal point of the game. It was, however, quickly cancelled out by Spencer Butterfield’s five straight points which eventually sealed the victory for the French side.

Zmajevi are now 0-4 in EuroCup, after losing to Nanterre 92

Being here in Ljubljana is really nice. I heard this arena is historic. We had Devin (Oliver) play here and he told us about the history and how great people are here. I thought it was a great game, good atmosphere. They have a good team and this is a good road win for us, I’m really excited about that. The group is a toss-up, it’s evenly matched. We’re getting better each game, competing. We had our ups and downs but coach has done a great job with us, preparing us and we came here tonight and did a great job!

Next up for Cedevita Olimpija is an ABA League derby against Partizan NIS, a team that has combined 9 wins in 10 official matches this season (losing only to Koper Primorska), in the Stožice Arena on Saturday, October 26th at 18:00.
